There is this place in the area that I work that offers a very panoramic view of the rest of the area where I work. I thought Karalee might enjoy the view, and at least this would provide us an excuse to get out of the house.
So I learned Saturday that much of what Karalee sees on any road is pure peril, but the perils multiply exponentially (in her mind) by narrow dirt roads that switch back up the side of a mountain and can be traversed by cars in which she finds herself. Well, we had to travel up just such a road, in just such a car, carrying just such a Karalee in order to arrive to our destination in the Coronado National forest at the base of the Huachuca Mountains--a half-mile north of the Mexican border and about 18 miles southwest of our home.
We made it--alive--and managed to eat a little picnic, but in the car because it was quite windy and cold that day. We also managed to snap a few photos of the view and of ourselves before we narrowly (pun intended) escaped the mountain and its treacherous roads.

Pretty pictures! And yes, I was referring to both the scenery and the people in them. And yes, Curtis and Karalee are the pretty people I am was referring to.
ReplyDeleteWhen is your baby coming out?
ReplyDeleteI think Aunt Karalee's shirt is pretty. I like the color, just the color, that's all.
Hey Curtis!
ReplyDeleteWhat's goin' on my cousin from a distant land? I love going to beautiful locations and just enjoying the scene! Jared envies the job that you have. He said it would be fun. Is it? Congrats on the baby coming. Hope everything goes well.

Kandra,
ReplyDeleteThings are going well. We're excited for the baby to come. I've been waiting long enough and want to meet this little guy! Sounds like you and Jared are feeling very blessed to have Gavin with you, and I hope Karalee and I feel the same about Nathan.
I do enjoy my job right now--interestingly, it is much less stressful than teaching was, probably because I was a brand new teacher and that's usually when a teacher is most stressed out. That is until they begin assuming more and more responsibility and it isn't just about teaching your subject anymore.
Even still, the are things very unique to the Border Patrol that require adjusting. First, the Patrol is very hierarchical based, meaning that as the low man on the totem pole, you're expected to sacrifice self-dignity and worth in order to be demoralized for the benefit of thos superior to you. Fortunately, this will change as I gain more experience.
The other thing is that I wish the government would take the problems at our borders much more seriously.
Even still, I am excited to work on my own as an agent and do my best to catch the dope and illegal aliens. Once I am working by myself and not in BP's training program, I will enjoy BP a lot more.
Good to hear from you! I hope Vegas is turning out great.
Ooohh the desert. People can say what they will about the barren nothingness, but put a sunset and couple of Merrills with it, and it is gorgeous. Kare, OMG OMG OMG! Any day now! Don't forget to blog while you are in labor... I'm really looking forward to reading some four letter words from you! :) Love... baby... here... soon. What words were YOU thinking of?
