Sweet Victory!!

When Curtis and I were engaged I went to DI almost every day for weeks to find a set of couches for us. I was lucky enough to one day stumble upon a decent couch and love seat for only $45, however they were nowhere near my dream couches. Those couches have been good to us for about 2 years, however, around June they decided that they had had enough. It seemed like every time I looked there was a new rip in the cushions.

(the bottoms of all the cushions have rips too, this is the best way to arrange the cushions in order to show the least amount of taring)

So in July I started shopping around for new couches. I finally fell in love with this amazing two tone sectional. It had everything that both Curtis and I wanted. It had a hide-a-bed, it reclined, it had a removable corner wedge so that it could be just a couch and love seat, it was deep enough for Curtis but not too deep for me....it was perfect! Well, almost perfect, the only thing that didn't work for us was the $1600 price tag. I decided to look at every furniture store I could find, including online stores to find a better price for the sectional. I was disappointed to see that $1600 was a ridiculously good price for this sectional, I wasn't able to find another price under $2000. So, sadly, Curtis and I decided that we could not afford $1600 couches at this point in time. However, our old couches HAD to be replaced. Slip covers were so expensive plus they just didn't look good on this couch. I decided to watch craigslist for anyone who was selling a cheap, decent pair of couches. I probably checked for new listings about 15 times a day for every day for the last 3 months. Then, Monday night I decided to expand my search to the Tuscon area (which is about an hour and 15 minute drive). There was a much bigger selection, about 300 furniture listings a day, as opposed to our 20 listings in Sierra Vista. I checked the listing Monday night and didn't find much. Then, on Tuesday afternoon after checking the listings for the 4th time that day I saw a new listing for a sectional. I clicked the listings and beheld a picture of the very sectional that I had been dreaming about for 3 months! The title of the post was "Sectional Service -$300" I about flipped out. I called the guy 3 times only to get an answering machine, I also called Curtis and had him call as well. Curtis eventually talked to the guy and he informed Curtis that the sectional was only couple years old and in pretty good condition, it just had one tare at the very bottom of one of the recliners. Fortunatley, the next day was Curtis' day off so we borrowed a friend's truck and headed off to Tucson to check out the sectional.

When we got to the house there were a couple of other women looking at the sectional. I about screamed, there was no way that we were going to get this close only to lose out on buying the sectional by minutes. We informed the seller that we wanted to buy the sectional before the other ladies had made up their minds. The seller said "well that settles it". WOO HOO!!!! It took 2 trips to get the sectional back to our house, but it was totally worth it! Miracles happen!

The sectional doesn't fit in the house we are renting so we have the wedge off to the side. However, we are moving into our new house in a couple of months and I already have the perfect place for it!

  2. Hoorah!!! Those couches look AMAZING! I can't wait to come and watch V-Mars on them and eat whoppers! By the way, I enjoy the way you spell "Tare"...Is that what it means to speak Messianically?

  3. I blame that on Curtis. I asked him how to spell it! (He always makes fun of my inability to spell to I get super self-conscious around him and ask him how to spell EVERYTHING)

  4. Kare, when you called asking me if I thought that Craigs-listing was real, I was SO sure it was not. It HAD to be a mistake. Who in their right mind would sell such awesome couches for so little? I still can't believe this! You two are the luckiest fools I know! Very nice. :)

  5. I love good deals. It's a lot of work to find them though, isn't it?

  6. It sure does take a lot of effort. But that's why I stay home--to make us money by saving. In fact, I went grocery shopping last night and finished up with a $200 price tag. However, everything I bought, I bought with a coupon dropping the final price tag by a whopping $83 (that included sales prices and other deals offered by Fry's). So $200 went down to $117! Nice!

(BTW, this post is really Curtis speaking for Karalee).
